a time to build up.”
Message from the Coach
The end of the winter season is a very bittersweet time. It is a time for reflection and a time to consider the future. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us there is, “a time for every purpose under heaven.” Verse 3 says, “A time to break down, and a time to build up.”
The breaking down part is the bitter part as we conclude all that we had this year in the three teams. Realize this; these teams will never again be as they are. But next winter, if the Lord tarries, will bring a new Varsity team, a new Jr. Varsity team, and a new Freshman team. We all have memories of the season and our memories are greatly enhanced with the pictures on this website and the awesome program magazine. Thank you, Rebekah McKinstry, Rosemary Schick, Shawna Frenzel, Peggy Koustik, Stan Jeranko, and Mike Weisman! It is a bitter time because the work with the seniors is done and we will soon say goodbye to them as they graduate. It is a bitter time because we feel the sadness and emptiness of not being with each other at practice, in the Bible studies, and on the bench.
It is a sweet time because in reflection, the Frosh/Soph team placed 2nd in league, the Jr. Varsity team is co-champion of the Orange Coast League. They were champions in two of the three tournaments and placed 2nd in the Edison Tournament. The Varsity had some exciting, on the edge of your seat, finishes to many games. This was the best defensive team in my 10 years as coach. It is a sweet time because we have seen much progress in the skill levels of many players. We have seen our young men mature and learn to work together and to define their roles on the team and in the CCHS community. It is a sweet time because we have accomplished much for the Gospel of Christ. Soon, we will have a banquet to celebrate the accomplishments of the season.
But the time is now to build up and with the Lord’s guidance we will do more to further his Kingdom. Although I am sad as a coach seeing this come to and end, I look forward to the future and the work God will continue to complete in all of us. I conclude with this passage from Ecclesiastes 3:13, “and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor – it is the gift of God.”
God bless you,
Coach Bernie Francis
